Shorts: Fashion Do or Fashion Don’t?

Shorts are making a resurgence on the fashion scene this season. The big deal is to roll them up, and any length will do.

I admit it. I stopped wearing shorts quite a while ago. I just feel like there is a point in every woman’s life when it’s time to hang up the shorts and leave ’em to the younger generations, and I hit that point about five years ago.

I do sometimes wear a pair of denim knee-length shorts for very casual situations, but I’m much more comfortable in cropped pants or a casual cargo skirt. I have several of these.

Very cute with a tank or tee and a pair of flip flops. And MUCH cooler than pants.

And this slim cropped style is all the rage this year. It’s not as casual a look as the cargo skirt, but I hear they are very comfy.

How about you? Are shorts a fashion do or a fashion don’t?

  1. I don’t think I look great in shorts or skirts because of my body shape so most of my wardrobe is dress pants, jeans and dresses.

But I think those that can pull them off should wear them proudly. Just not too short. They should at least cover your hiney cheeks lol.

  2. I love shorts, but then again, I actually *like* my legs. My mom is 64 and still has great legs, so I’m hoping to walk THAT path lol. I don’t have boobs, but I have LEGS! So…shorts is a *do* for me. (NOTE–I certainly don’t mean shorts where your heiny is in any danger of falling out…)

  3. I have an issue with short becuase I have bigger thighs. They aren’t fat, but muscular. I have always had bigger thighs because I was a dancer for 12 years. I love the longer shorts, but I really do love the first pair of shorts. Where are those from? I am y invest in some skirts this year, especially since I now work in a casual office environment and don’t want to just wear jeans all summer.

    • Jayme, I’m not sure. The first ones may be from JCrew. I was looking there as well as Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic to get ideas for this post.

I agree, skirts are nice for casual work wear.

  4. I’m in Florida and shorts aren’t just a do, they are, to me, a must! But I think a lot of fashion rules don’t seem to apply in Florida. I wear a longer style, I’m not a teen anymore and some shorts are just too darn short. I love denim shorts, they go with so much and also madras plaids. Since I am getting “older”, I have been wearing more cropped pants and skirts, too.

  5. I love the cargo skirt you’ve featured. But I can’t find it anywhere! Would you please share wear you bought yours? Thanks.

Elle, I don’t have that exact one, but I have found cute ones for the past several years at Target. Cute and affordable – can’t beat that, right? 🙂

  6. Share “where” so I can “wear” one. Those homonyms will dash you every time.
