Goody Spin Pins

A few weeks ago, at Target, I found the craziest-looking hair product: the Goody Spin Pin.

Goody Spin Pin

What is it?

Basically, the two spin pins take the job of a dozen bobby pins in securing a bun. Because of the spiraled shape, they grab onto all kinds of layers of hair and help hold the bun in place without using a bunch of bobby pins.

Here’s how it works.

First, gather up your hair into a loose ponytail. Step 1

Begin twisting the hair into a bun.

Begin twisting the hair into a bun. Smooth all the little flyaways into the bun.

Step 2

Take the first pin (there are 2 per package and you need both) and “screw it in” at the top of the bun. I thought this would be weird but the pin just glides right in.

(Yes, I know I’ve got an annoying little rat-tail of hair in the front but it just doesn’t reach the bun. I needed ONE bobby pin.)

Step 4

Take the second pin and screw it in from the bottom of the bun. The directions said to “be careful not to interlock the pins”… but mine did and it wasn’t a disaster or anything. I think they obviously work better if they’re holding onto hair, not each other.

Step 5

And that’s it!

Goody Spin Pin Bun

This particular how-to was done on a day when I was running late and I barely put any effort into my hair at all… and that bun lasted all day!

Of course, with hair as fine as mine is I inevitably had some stragglers popping free by the end of the day, but with a tiny dusting of hair spray that could have been prevented.

The pins are about $5.99 at most major retailers and comes in blonde and brunette.

What do you think of the Spin Pin?

  1. LOVE! I saw these a few weeks ago and wondered how they worked. I’ve got short hair so I wonder if I could do that and pull up the sides. I may need to look into this.

    These look very interesting!

  3. THEStephanie says:

Hmmm…. very interesting! I may have to give these a try!

  4. I saw an infomercial for these doo-hickeys a few weeks ago and have been on the hunt for them ever since. I haven’t been able to find them yet but glad to see a real live person (as opposed to those robot models in commercials) try it out and have it actually work.

Target, you say? I’m on my way!

  5. I have been looking for these things everywhere! Maybe the stores here finally have them in stock. I will be checking this week.

  6. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these! My hair is SO fine that nothing usually works in it and these work amazingly well. I struggled to find them at first, but now I see them most everytime I go into Walgreens and/or Rite Aid. It’s a cute, fast, easy summer ‘do.

    wow thay look realy cool

  8. It’s so funny – I just saw these for the first time the day before you posted and thought to myself, “Hm. Someone should test that out for CC.” 🙂 Yay! Your hair looks great. Mine is too short for such fun, waaaah.

  9. I found mine at Walgreens……..too easy…definitely recommend!!!!

  10. I purchased the Spin Pins at Walgreens and absolutely love them…I have long thick hair, that would also take dozens of hair pins. This takes seconds to do, and stays in all day. Great product 🙂

  11. I just tried these today, and I’m totally hooked! I have long, very thick hair that I usually just put in a ponytail. I’m excited to do some experimenting with these and see what other styles I can come up with!

  12. The spin pins make the cutest chignon bun! I’m African-American with thick hair and it usually takes lots of hairpins to keep my bun in place, but just 2 spin pins keep the bun in place until you take them out.
