Personal MicroDerm

As the glorious days of my twenties become a distant memory and the big 4-0 looms ever nearer, I can personally attest to the wise words of one Truvy Jones: Honey, time marches on and eventually you realize it is marchin’ across your face.

Oh how true it is.

For a while now, my skin has been showing the telltale signs of age (and my love affair with the sun; in fact, it probably has more to do with the sun than age, but anyway) and I’ve been fighting an uphill battle. I take care of my skin. I use good products. I get semi-regular facials (if once or twice a year is semi-regular.) I always wash my makeup off at night, and I exfoliate once or twice a week. There’s not much else a girl can do without resorting to some sort of procedure.

But no matter what, I still suffer from break outs (hello, I’m not 15 anymore!) and I have some unfortunate battle scars from that. I also have a lot of redness and uneven skin tone that I work hard to cover up with makeup.

I’ve been interested in looking into microdermabrasion for a while, but sticker shock has prevented me from pursuing it. So when SkinCareRX asked me to review their new Personal Microderm tool, I was ecstatic.

This is an at home microderm treatment that you can enjoy in the privacy of your own bathroom, and for the price of one microdermabrasion treatment, you can use it over and over again. Note, the exfoliating disks have to be replaced after 2 or 3 uses, so you’ll want to factor that into the equation. But still, you are getting away aheckuvalot cheaper than going to the spa, and it’s a lot more convenient too.

As they told me when they pitched the product, “Personal Microderm does for your skin what a new air filter and engine flush does for your car. Not only does it help skin problems (like early texture changes, sun damaged skin, skin buildup, etc), but it also allow the lotions you use every day to have the best effect.”

I’ve only used it once, but so far, so good! It’s not hard to use, but there is a quick video to watch first. It feels a bit sand-papery, and there’s a mild suction that feels funny but isn’t painful at all.

I was pleased with the results. I wish I could compare it to professional microdermabrasion, but of course I can’t. I can tell you that when I was done, my skin was soft and silky smooth, much like it is after I exfoliate or use my Clarisonic. I think my battle scars faded a bit, but it’s hard to be sure. I can’t wait to see how my skin looks after using the system for a few more weeks. (You can only use it once a week, which is why I’ve only used it once.)

I’m definitely making this at home microderm a regular part of my routine, and I can’t wait to see how my skin improves over the next few weeks.

  1. I love that you can do this at home! going and getting it done somewhere is such a hassle and I have to worry that I may be allergic to other products they use.

Wow! Sounds very intriguing…I’ve never had a professional microdermabrasion because of the cost, but I’ve always wanted to try it. This is a really tempting alternative!

  3. This is totally tempting for me.
I have acne scars, uneven skintone, and I’ve always wanted to try microdermabrasion.

My only concern would be that I would screw it up-not that it sounds easy to-just that I’m that clueless.
