You know what bites about summer? MOSQUITOES.

AAAHAHAHA… get it? BITES? Oh, nevermind…
Every summer, without fail, I get eaten alive. I’ve tried sprays. Skin-so-Soft. Not wearing scented lotions. NOTHING HELPS. And, being the awesome mom that I am, I’ve passed this rather unfortunate trait on to my daughter. I am the coolest! We have matching bug bites!
So I voiced my complaint about my mosquito woes on Facebook the other day, and my friend Melanie offered a suggestion I hadn’t ever heard: rub a dryer sheet all over yourself.
Say whaaaaat?
But then another friend, Miranda, suggested I try it out for you, dear Chic Critique readers. Oh dear. What have I gotten myself into?!
The scene: My backyard, where apparently thousands of mosquitoes party for the summer.
The equipment: Target brand dryer sheets, my arms, my legs. I’m not brave enough to rub a dryer sheet on my acne-prone face.
The verdict: Although I did have a definitive bounce in my step (oh no you didn’t just go there!) (oh hell yes I did!), I can’t say that this worked or that I’d recommend it. I mean, I guess it’s hard to tell whether I got any MORE bites than I already have, since my legs are literally covered already. But I felt a little weird rubbing a dryer sheet directly on my skin – even though I KNOW it’s really not that different than its residue being on my clothes. Mental glitch alert!
So tell me. Short of encasing myself in a onesie-type sleeper all summer (now THERE’S a mental picture for you, friends!), what are your suggestions for avoiding future mosquito bites? Also: any suggestions for making the red bumps go away? THEY’RE UGLY. And itchy. But mostly ugly.
Disclosure: I am not at all affiliated with Bounce, Target or Melanie’s business, but she does sell some mighty fine stuff.

Have you tried Off brand Mosquito Repellent Clip-On? It works fantastic! Mosquitos tend to stalk and hunt my husband and he is always ravaged by them after an evening outdoors or a camping trip. That is, until he started using this. Now, maybe just a bite or two. Nothing like it was before! And for me? I love it because I don’t have that horrible “hair spray on skin” feel that I get whenever spraying mosquito repellent on. I was skeptical but it really works!
Lol-I was going to say “don’t waste your $9.99 on an OFF clip-on repellent”. Did NOT work for neither husband nor myself 🙁 I wish I had read the reviews on Amazon.com before I bought this, although it did work very well for some (like the above commenter).
That’s hilarious that you both have such different experiences with the same product! 🙂 I haven’t tried it, but knowing that the spray doesn’t work for me I’m curious as to whether the clip-on would. Hm… worth a shot, I guess! Thanks, ladies!
