How to DIY Your Watch

Ladies, if you’re anything like me you sometimes wait to do things until the last minute.

And so if you work retail (like I do) and needed a watch for Black Friday craziness… you purchased it on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at… oh, 8 pm.

And open it on Thanksgiving Day to realize it’s a link or three too big. Heh. Oops.

So you see the handy arrows indicating that one can definitely remove links on their own… but after trying out every screwdriver/nail/pin/random tool in the house the links are most definitely in tact.

Even with the help of a hammer.

And then I found the magical watch-link-removing tool: the humble thumb tack.

Even if you accidentally break one trying to wedge that darn link off… it’s ok, you’ve got 300 more in your desk drawer.

Out came the pin with a few gentle (read: aggressive) pushes.

And then you just re-attach the clasp of the watch… and BAM. Brand new watch.

Obviously I don’t recommend fitting your fancy Rolex this way… but it’s quite handy and easy for a $12 watch.

And I saved you from trying every screwdriver/nail/pin in your house first… cause they won’t work. You’re welcome.

Thank you for this! I always end up taking it to a jeweler and paying around $8.00 for them to do it. I have a watch that does need a couple of links taken out….so I’ll give it a try!
