Fashion Friday: Stretch your Winter Wardrobe

We’re solidly into winter here in the Northeast (and between you and me, I’m about one snow day away from moving to San Diego). And around now, I’m getting sick of my winter wardrobe. Black sweater and jeans, gray sweater dress and jeggings, gray boyfriend cardigan and jeans, black sweater dress and leggings… repeat. And now all these UBER-CUTE spring clothes are coming out and just calling my name. And they’re on sale!! Oh, but I’m trying so hard not to spend money…

So today we’re going to talk about a few ways to freshen up our winter wardrobe… either by slipping those new things into your wardrobe early or by diving into those summer clothes you packed away in October when the temperatures started dropping!

1. The sleeveless blouse: This summer staple is one of the easiest pieces to work into your winter wardrobe. Layer a flowing, watercolor blouse under a  blazer, pair with jeans and boots and you have a bright new look for a gloomy winter day!
Or pair with a sweet cardigan with a summery floral top for an equally cool look.
A few more ideas for cute blouses, if you need some: brushed dot shell and this pansy blooms ruffled shell from LOFT and this vineyard print shell from White House Black Market!

2. Shift dress: Slip on your favorite shift dress, add a cardigan, belt and tights and voila! You’re set!

3. Bright colors: I love wearing bright colors in the summer, but for some reason in winter, I always just end up in blacks and grays. Instead of grabbing a white t-shirt to put under that cardigan, why not add a bright tee to spice things up? How cute is this little pop of color?
I love that little hint of color! I wouldn’t have thought of that with a patterned sweater, but I will be trying it soon! And I love this ruffled top from Old Navy – wouldn’t this look so cute with a black boyfriend cardigan?
