hair trend: braid it up!

Hair braiding has been around since Biblical times {although it wasn’t so much a fashion statement then as it was a lifestyle statement, but I digress} but they’re making a fresh re-appearance this year in the Movie Premier/Awards circuit. Check out some of my favorites:

I love how easy-breezy this look is on Minka Kelly. She pulled out just the right amount of hair around her face to add some interest, but this style really is all about the braid. If you’d like to try to duplicate this look, remember to pull many small sections of hair into the weave of the braid, not 3 large sections as is typical of a normal braid.

For a more casual look, try Emma Robert’s style on for size. Just braid a small section on either side of your head and secure with a  bobby pin/clip in the back. You can hide the ends of the braids under your hair, or just clip them over top of your hair in the back.

Last, but certainly not least, is Emily Blunt. I think she looks so elegant with this style. She always looks elegant though. Sigh. Anyway, to get this look, part to the side and start both french braids toward the top/front of the head. Swing down as you progress so that when you get to the back of the head your at the base of the hairline. Fold the ends of the braid under and secure with bobby pins.

What do you think? Are you loving this hair trend? Will you brave it and attempt one of these styles? Share!

  1. Love braids!! So cute – I rocked them yesterday, in fact 🙂

  2. I rock a basic braid all the time but I always have trouble mastering the trickier ones. Like Emily Blunt’s do….that’s AMAZING but no way I could pull it off on my own.
