Test Driving Makeup Wipes

I don’t know about you, but by the time end of day gets here, the last thing I want to do is go through a drawn-out face washing routine. I just want the makeup off, you know? Enter the beauty of makeup removing wipes.

Cue the heavenly angels: Makeup wipes! Lazy skincare for the win!

In the past few months, I have tested out four brands (you’re welcome!). Here’s what I have to say about them…

Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelettes

Purchased at: Target
Pro: They’re relatively inexpensive, feature natural ingredients, they smell great, and here’s the best part: They have a snap-top case. I didn’t realize how much I would adore that feature, but you’re talking about a package that will be open for a while; you want them to stay wet!
Con: The wipe itself was pretty rough – it made my face kind of hurt! Lots of wipes would come out at once, but then again maybe that’s a pro – because I just wanted them to be gone already.
Buy again? Not a chance.

Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes

Purchased at: Sephora
Price: $12 for 30 wipes
Pro: These smell nice, and generally do a good job. I love polar bears, and a portion of these wipes’ sales goes to protect them, so that’s nice. I don’t necessarily understand the connection, but whatever. Team Polar Bear!
Con: They just don’t “wow” me enough to fork out this kind of money.
Buy again? No, I don’t think so.

Korres Pomegranate Cleansing & Make Up Removing Wipes For Oily And Combination Skin

Purchased at: Sephora
Price: $12 for 25 wipes
Pro: These smell awesome, they’re super soft, and they do a great job cleaning without roughing or drying up my skin.
Con: The cost! If these were cheaper, I would buy them on the regular.
Buy again? With a coupon, absolutely.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleaning Cloths

Purchased at: Sephora
Price: $20 for 45 wipes
Pro: These seem to clean pretty well, and the cloths are soft. The adhesive closure actually re-sticks once the package is open, which is nice – some of the others didn’t fare so well in that department.
Con: Although the product description on the website indicates you can use them “around the eye area,” the packaging tells you not to. I tried it in the name of science, and yeah. Don’t use these on your eyes, kids.
Buy again? Eh, I don’t think so. They smell kinda gross.

So there you have it, friends. Do you use makeup removing wipes? What are your favorites?

Disclosure: I got nothin’ for you here. These were all purchased by me, for me. Opinions, as always, are mine all mine. 🙂

I’ve been using the Olay Definity Wipes, and I have to say they’re pretty great! I only paid about $2.50 because they were on sale and I had a coupon. They smell decent, do a good job of removing my makeup (even waterproof mascara!!) and they have a mildly exfoliating texture. I had used the Yes to Cucumbers ones and was similarly unimpressed by them. They did smell great but that was about it. I have used Ponds wipes in the past and those were no good. They smell bad and dry out. The Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes are pretty good. But honestly, as I think back to all that I have used, I think the Olay Definity are the winners for me. It seems like the more expensive ones aren’t worth it, and I don’t have to go anywhere special to get these. They are available at the drugstore and even the grocery store.

    • I’ve used a different Olay brand, but not Definity. I’ll have to check them out! Overall, I liked the Olay wipes but hated that the adhesive on the package popped up almost immediately. I had a problem with them getting dry, but maybe they’ve changed since then. Thanks for the heads up on them!

  2. I use the MAC brand and I love them! I don’t use them every night, only when I’m in a rush. I only use them to remove makeup, so I still cleanse afterwards. They smell sooooo good and aren’t drying at all. I love them!

    • I always forget about MAC, that’s a great suggestion! And, it’s right across the “hall” from Sephora at my mall, so it’s definitely convenient. 🙂

  3. Great review. Sounds like you found one that is great, but price is a bit of a barrier. This is definitely what I would consider to be a “luxury” beauty item. Maybe put them on your holiday wish list since it is something you love but are reluctant to buy for yourself! 🙂

  4. I have just recently started using the Yes To Blueberries Age Refresh Brightening Facial Towelettes. They clean and moisturize in one step and do a great job of removing my makeup. They are made with apple and lemon peel and the smell is phenomenal – so crisp and refreshing. This is the first Yes To..product I’ve tried and I really like it.

    • Hm, I haven’t seen the Blueberry kind (only cucumber and carrot) – where did you find them?

  5. my skin tends to get oily & i broke out from a lot of these types of wipes. what has really worked for me though, is the “clean & clear” makeup dissolving facial cleansing wipes. they are oil-free and work fantastic!
after using the wipes, i will swipe a cottonball with either witch hazel OR apple cider vinegar to pick up anything left behind. (which isn’t usually much)
now, i use the wipes when in a pinch or if i’m toooo tired to wash my face with soap and water.
for washing, i love, love, love “olay, 2 in 1 daily facial cloths” for combo/oily skin but they also have them for normal or dry skin too. these have the soap in the dry cloth so that you wet and wash. one side exfoliates and the other is smooth for gentle cleansing.
    so convenient!!!!

    • Ooo, I love Clean & Clear! I can’t remember if I’ve tried their wipes… adding to my try-it list! 🙂
