Small Style :: First Day of School

School started up this week for many of us, and like many moms, I took my kids shopping for First Day of School outfits. They don’t need a thing, as it is still plenty warm for summer clothes, but I love carrying on my childhood tradition of having a fresh outfit designated for the First Day of School.

Becca was all decked out in Gymboree. We picked out this adorable butter yellow butterfly t-shirt, ruffle hem jean skirt, and floral leggings from the Bee Chic Collection on the clearance rack. Her black Geox “Shadow” Mary Janes were a Nordstrom Semi-Annual Sale purchase, and the pink Butterfly Floral FeatherLight 100 Backpack is from Lands’ End.

Caroline is my Justice girl. I will be honest and say that I’m not always a fan of their style or quality, but I immediately honed in on this Floral Maxi Skirt when we walked into the store last week. It’s adorable and so Caroline. The crochet top and attached tank were shown with the skirt, and she liked it, so we picked that up too. A 40%-off coupon brought the prices into reasonable range. Her embellished sandals were a Kohl’s purchase during the summer, and they worked perfectly with this outfit so she is saving her new fall shoes for cooler weather. Her backpack is the Floral ClassMate® Wheeled StudyHaul Backpack in turquoise from Lands’ End, and we love it. She can carry it on her back like a backpack or pull it by the handle.

David got some new clothes at Sports Authority but then decided to wear an old Wes & Willy t-shirt and blue athletic shorts for his first day of 6th grade. We got the Nike ‘Air Max Pure’ Basketball Shoes at the Nordstrom Semi-Annual Sale, and evidently tall black athletic socks are all the rage among the pre-adolescent boys. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the look, but clothing choices are not a hill I’m prepared to die on so I remained notably silent and allowed this fashion atrocity to emerge from my house. And that’s all I have to say about that.

Oh, David’s backpack is from Lands’ End as well. It has a broken zipper, and when I called, they agreed to replace it, no questions asked. They are sending him a replacement Solid FeatherLight 200 Backpack, in Colbat Blue. I love Lands’ End for the way they stand behind their products, and I’m a customer for life.

Disclosure: All products mentioned in this post were purchased by me with the exception of Caroline’s Wheeled StudyHaul Backpack, which Lands’ End provided me for the purpose of review.

  2. Oh, all three of them look adorable! I totally agree with you, you have to have a first day of school outfit. That was always one of the biggest highlights of going back to school for me. I love all of their outfits, but Caroline’s? I would definitely wear that!
