30 Day Challenge: Closet Chic Week 1

So I wasn’t kidding when I called this a challenge. I’ve found that I go back for the same outfits over and over again; things that I think I look better in than others, colors I favor, etc., etc.

BUT!

I’m also really pleased with this challenge, because I wore something for the first time ever that I’ve had for five years. Pitiful, huh? First, let’s go through the run-down:

1. shirt from Express, black faded skinny jeans from American Eagle Outfitters {AEO} boots from Bakers Shoes {BS}

2. turtleneck from the Gap, jeggings from AEO, boots from BS

3. poncho from H&M, skinny jeans from AEO, boots from BS

4.cowl neck sweater from Express, skinny jeans from AEO, moccasin flats from AEO

5. cream sweater from AEO, jeggings from AEO, boots from BS, scarf from India {the country, not like a store or something}

6. dolman shirt from Express, maternity cami from Gap Maternity {yes I still wear maternity camis}, jeggings from AEO, boots from BS, scarf was a gift.

7. top and jeggings from AEO, cami from Express, no shoes because I spent the day in the house baking.

8. cardigan from Coco & Lolly {no longer in business}, tank from Motherhood Maternity, leggings from Express, boots from BS, scarf from AEO

So the thing that I’ve owned for five years that I’ve never before worn was the scarf from India in photo #5. I just never really knew what to pair it with, but now I do!

What I’ve discovered is that I’m not crazy about myself in those thick stripes, so Goodwill may be getting a visit from me in the near future. No sense keeping something you’re not crazy about, right? Also, I should probably bulk up my lack of inventory of accessories. Because I really don’t have any. And also? That plaid shirt has got to go. I mean, let’s be honest. You think so too. It’s just not flattering on me. {for some reason it looked better on me last year}

This first week for me was obviously about making improvements. I’m really learning about what works for me, what doesn’t, and how to style things better. Yes, next week will be a better week.

Did you participate? Let me know if you did, I’d love to see what you wore!

  1. I think this is awesome, and I am sort of on a 30 day challenge as well (I just have told anyone!) With the holidays coming up- I’m trying not to buy any more clothes- and just work my closet. I love that you are doing the same!

    It’s fun to see what we can come up with when forced to work with what we have.
    My favorite looks are #2 and #8- You look great!

    As for the wide stripes- I’d keep them, but layer them under a blazer or break up the stripes with a long necklace. You have a great figure, so you can wear these! Don’t give up yet! 🙂

  2. I love outfits 3, 5 and 8 on you. Very pretty. I do have to agree on the thick stripes…but then again, I’ve never been a fan of thick stripes on anyone.

    And I am the same with accessories…I just don’t have any. Jo-Lynne does all the Wednesday posts on what she wore and she has all these beautiful accessories – they really do make the outfit. I guess I need to buy some. Although, your scarves in the pictures above are great accessories!

    Can’t wait to see next week!

    • thanks beth! i think I’m going to try the purple stripe shirt under a blazer and see how that works….if it doesn’t – off to goodwill it goes! thanks for the encouragement! 🙂

  3. Amazing how you think something looks great on you then you see yourself in a photo! What a fun challenge you’re doing. It’s fun taking a peek into your challenge…might motivate me to do the same. Looks #2,3,8 are my faves. Think some accessories would be a great addition to some outfits (necklace, statement earrings, scarf, etc.). Can’t wait to seen next set of outfits!

    • so true tiffany. SO. TRUE. if nothing else, this challenge will help me rid my closet of things I THOUGHT i looked good in but really don’t!
