Was anyone else blind-sided by Miss Piggy being a judge? Miss Piggy? A Muppet?
Well, she is a mega-celebrity. But I am curious whose opinions were behind that voice. She did bring humor to the table, the bantering between her and Eric Dagan (the brains behind Gossip Girl fashion who was filing in for Issac) was absolutely hysterical.
Miss Piggy also had a major part in the challenge, which was to create a ‘flamboyant cocktail dress for one of the most famous fashionistas.’ Obviously herself. To wear on the red carpet of The Muppets premiere. I love challenges like this that don’t really limit the designers. You really see their best work come through.
After a quick stop at Mood, the designers put their heads down and got to work. It seemed as though this challenge was going to be drama free until the mud-slinging started up on the individual interviews. Then things got a little catty in the workroom as Kenley and Kara formed an unpopular alliance, Mondo and Kara had a throw down over some pink gloves and Michael made some snide remarks about Austin’s design. But what’s a challenge without some drama?
Onto the runway!

CHALLENGE WINNER: Michael took home the gold with this ‘present-inspired’ cocktail dress in gorgeous shimmering fabric. And topped off the look with a hat that would make Princess Beatrice swoon.
PERSONAL FAVORITE: I think Michael nailed it, but I was smitten with Anthony’s flowing peacock design. I think the look translates well for a lot of different body types and the color and fabric choices were stunning.
SENT PACKING: This nightgown wasn’t hitting the red carpet anytime soon. While Gordana’s dress was sweet and pretty, it was entirely inappropriate for the event. Even if Miss Piggy wanted to show that much leg.
PERSONAL WORST: Sigh, I hate to see a good design fall flat on his face, but Austin just didn’t get it. His grey and maroon dress was too edgy for the client and what woman would want gigantic bows accentuating her hips?
