Trend Watch: The New Florals

Spring is bursting forth from coast to coast, and from rain showers to warm fronts, the weather is reminding us that is time to shop. There are so many great trends this season that work for busy moms, and one that is way working for us is flower power. Depending on what a girly girl you are, you can go all out with this trend, or just infuse a standard outfit with a little punch of florals to brighten up and modernize the look. Here are some ideas, from dreamy splurges to budget-conscious must-buys.

Rather than screaming, “I’M ON BOARD WITH THE FLORAL TREND,” low-key girls can work it in a blend of whites, creams, and grays. These jeans from Forever 21 feature a soft all-over rose print in muted neutrals that can be brightened up with a red or pink top, or kept quiet and paired with a black tank and little black moccasins.

Or, you could blow your savings on a floral-on-floral gray and white blouse and pleated skirt from Marc Jacobs RTW. This delicious spring pairing works with platforms, flats or bare feet.

Asian Influence:

Oriental and bold Hawaiian undertones were a constant theme on the spring runways (anyone remember Stella McCartney’s collection?), and this is a great way to perk up your party look or just feel fabulous for a day of errands around town. Scope this steal from TopShop, a smock dress with oh-so-now floral detail and chic color blocking. Its T-shirt dress feel and shape make it an easy piece for you to slip into, yet its high fashion look means you’ll turn heads.

Pretty in Pink:

Some of us just crave pink. Why disappoint your inner little girl? A pale pink, all-over floral print dress could be the ticket to creating your favorite spring outfit. All a dress like this requires is a pair of nude heels. And you.

Get Grounded:

A bold floral shoe is the unequivocal answer to the classic question, “How do I bring this blah outfit to life?” Whether you’re rocking jeans and a white t-shirt, a simple black shift, or a more inventive pairing of patterns, you can always throw on a flower-print shoe to brighten things up.
