Fashion Friday: Transition from Summer to Fall

While fall is certainly an excellent excuse to run out and buy sweater coats and boots, you can really stretch your wardrobe by working summer pieces into your fall wardrobe!

Take this top – one of my favorites – a silk shell from Banana Republic, scored on super clearance for only $10. During the summer, I paired it with bright denim or capris and sandals.

For transitioning to fall, I have three tricks:

1. Change your colors: Bright pink pants are perfect for summer. And they’re always cute for any time of year. But paired with a summery top, they’d look out of place. Don’t pair summer fabrics with summer colors. Wear those summer fabrics with fall colors, like burgundy, mustard and forest green to keep the trends from looking out of season.

2. Layer: Layers are always a good idea! Always. Repeat: ALWAYS.

3. Think outside the box: Yes, layering a cardi over a shell is hardly ground breaking. What can I say… It was a rough week. But what about throwing on tights under a sundress and adding a denim jacket? Or wearing a flowy maxi dress with a chambray shirt or sweater and cozy scarf?

See the difference?

  1. Note to self: buy a pair (or two) of colored jeans. Love both outfits!

  2. love how you updated the shell for the fall – totally works.

  3. That shell is really really cute! Love the pattern! You did a lovely job taking it from summer to fall!
