Plus Size Coats

It is that time of the year again. The sweaters are unpacked, the boots are dusted off and the winter coat is… bleh, looking pretty dingy. Plus size coat shopping is actually easier than ever before but unfortunately it is a pretty short season, usually over before the real cold weather gets here. When I say over I mean an adequate selection in all sizes and styles. About mid-season there are still fall and winter coats available but they selection is usually disappointing.

Here are a few of my favorite online shops for plus size coat shopping and my top picks for each:

In alphabetical order:

AdditionElle’s Plus Size Coats

Addition-Elle’s outerwear fits sizes 1x to 4x.

Clockwise from left:

  • Pea Coat with Hood, $149
  • Nuage Lykroft Coat, $249
  • Shawl Collar Coat, $249

If you are into the puff style coats Addition-Elle has quite a few to choose from. While you are there be sure to check out their sister store Penningtons.

ASOS Curve’s Plus Size Coats

ASOS Curve is a small brand within the ASOS site that offers plus sizes. Their coats are in sizes 14 to 22 for US sizing but check their measurements as I find they fit bigger.

Clockwise from left:

  • Button Swing Coat, $140
  • Military Fit and Flare Coat, $160
  • Peplum Coat with Belt, $189

As you can see they know how to use a-lines.

City Chic Online’s Plus Size Coats

City Chic Online does not have a huge selection to choose from but what they have is pretty cute. They currently dress sizes 14 to 24.

Clockwise from left:

  • Princess Coat, $74
  • Oh So Chic Coat, $60
  • Ski Bunny Jacket, $$60

Prices usually are in the $100 range but they currently have a sale on.

Evans’ Plus Size Coats

Evans’ coats dress sizes 14 to 32. They have a good selection of coats but many are dark.

Clockwise from left:

  • Stone Faux Fur Trim Padded Parka Coat, $115
  • Teal Faux Fur Collar Coat, $150
  • Navy Long Quilted Coat, $115

Like ASOS, this is a UK shop but I find Evans fit smaller so read the sizing information carefully and consider cut of coat and your body type.

Lane Bryant’s Plus Size Outerwear

Lane Bryant has coats for sizes 14 to 28.

Clockwise from left:

  • Plaid Toggle Coat, $170
  • Patch Pocket Trench Coat, $199
  • Houndstooth Babydoll Coat, $199

The prices might be a bit steep but make sure you check out the Lane Bryant site for coupon sales and promotions while you are making your decision — you may save 40 to 60% depending on where they are in their season sales.

Junonia’s Plus Size Coats

When I think Junonia, I think active wear, and the same is true for their outerwear. Their coats reflect the outdoors and being active. Currently they dress sizes 1x to 6x.

Clockwise from left:

  • Snow Bunny Anorak Ski Jacket, $190
  • Alpine Ski Pant, $150
  • Solid 3 in 1 Alpine Ski Jacket, $199

Their price points are high but you have to think what you get: warmth, water-proofing, larger size range. And where else can you find a ski pant above a 3x?

Ulla Popken’s Plus Size Coats

Ulla Popken does not have a large selection to choose from but they do have something most others do not — the long wool coat. They offer sizes 12 to 38.

Clockwise from left:

  • Princess Seam Long Coat, $179
  • Ultimate Dress Coat, $189
  • Classic Pea Coat, $159

Their stock does not change as quickly as the other shops seem too so if you fall in love with something and decide you want another, chances are you will find it.

The hottest trends for this year are parkas with fur trim, puff coats (yes I am talking Michelin man puffy), sailor peacoats, pattern coats (color blocking, animal), winter white if you can find it, shearling trim coats, and fur (but honestly I would not fork out money for the real thing as this trend never stays in favour long).
