I had to buy my husband a sports coat recently and BOY WAS IT COMPLICATED. I had his proper size and picked up a few options for him to choose from. Ones of the exact same size fit quite differently – and a well fitting sports coat is something that every guy needs. So, how do you get the proper fit?

- Shoulder pads end with their shoulders. Not sticking out slightly, not ending too soon. RIGHT at the end of their shoulder.
- The top button of a two-button sports coat — or the middle button of a three-button one — should not fall below the navel. When that button is buttoned, no bunching should occur – the suit should lay flat against the stomach. If its bunching, they need a bigger size.
- When his arms at his sides, his knuckles should be even with the bottom of the jacket. Proper length is important too!
- Sleeves should fall where the base of the thumb meets the wrist. Between a quarter and a half inch of shirt cuff should be visible. If their shirt isn’t showing a smidge, the sleeves are too long.

Great tips. My DH is so in need of a new sports coat but he hates shopping for them. Now I am armed with great tips. 😀
