We moved into our home in July and we hadn’t painted one single room. Weird, right? The last time we moved, I painted every single room in our house within a month! But the main living areas were just… great. They may not have been colors I picked out, but they went with our furniture and decor. (Did you see our new home tour, by the way?) I mean, look at our living room. It looks like we picked out the color ourselves, doesn’t it?

Our main issue was upstairs. The family who lived here before had four boys. The kids’ rooms are covered with surfboards, basketballs and footballs. You can imagine how happy this makes my daughters! We needed to paint the walls in their rooms, but were not sure where to start. See, here’s the thing:
I am horrible at picking out paint colors.
Like when I tried to paint my daughter’s room a ‘soft pink’ and it ended up looking like you’d stuck your head inside a cotton candy machine.
Like when I accidentally painted our living room green (it was supposed to be tan!).
Like when I painted our bathroom this strange shade of blue and it was SO BAD that I repainted it again within 3 days.
Devine Color to the rescue!! Devine Color uses Discovery Cards as opposed to paint chips. Each 8½” x 11″ Color Discovery Card features a boutique collection of 10-12 Trend-Proof Devine Colors artistically arranged around a viewing window that lets you easily compare shades and discover new color possibilities. They’re an easy way to plan out your palette and make sure your color choice is the right one.

I love Devine’s Trend-Proof Palette that includes 209 timeless, luminous hues inspired by art and nature, including silvery skies, sunbaked canyons, sparkling pools, discoveries abroad and wonders in the wild. Every color is thoughtfully created to complement natural materials in the home — highlighting subtle tones found deep in wood grain, on the surface of stone and woven into fibers of textiles. I seriously wanted to paint EVERYTHING. SO many great colors – but we decided we would paint Gracie’s room – her room had one wall with really REALLY old wallpaper and the other three walls all needed serious repairs. She also has the smallest room, so furniture was a challenge – her old furniture was just too big for the space. We went shopping and got her a new bookcase and desk, and some new bedding. Gracie loves purple and she fell in love with Devine Water Lily – a sweet, soft purple. We ordered our paint and got to work.
BEFORE:

It look over a week of scraping to get the old wallpaper and glue off the walls of her room before we could paint. But when we did…. I’ve never used a paint like Devine Color. Devine Color is an ultra-creamy – it goes on extremely smooth and spatter-free, coating walls abundantly with a soft, lush finish that’s durable and washable! It also features a zero VOC formula so it is totally safe for children’s rooms and nurseries, and on furniture throughout the house. It was so non-spatter that I let Gracie help me paint – something that I have NEVER done before!! It didn’t run down the walls and when I did make an oops on the hardwood floors, it was easy to clean up. I was shocked – SHOCKED – that we only needed one coat. I’ve never painted a room in only one coat! But the paint was like velvet going up on the walls – giving us complete coverage in just one coat.
In short – we LOVE IT. Check it out now:

Now, the paint is more expensive that the brand you’ll find at the box store – or even some brands at specialty store – at $59.95/gallon, but when you consider you’ll need less paint, I think you come out ahead. It is available in several sheens (we used Devine Delicate, which is their version of eggshell) and even they even have a Devine Color Promise. If you don’t love your new color, you can get another replacement color… FREE. Paint with confidence that you will LOVE your new room!! Devine Color Paint is available on their website and on Amazon.
We have two more rooms to paint upstairs in our house and you can bet I will be using Devine Color to do them!
disclosure: i received paint from devine colors to facilitate this post. i was not compensated financially and, as always, all opinions are my own.

Hi Melissa,
Love your home and the photos. I love picking out paint colors. I’m working on some design and build posts now, the photos take time to organize. Great information on Devine Color.
It is amazing what a change of color will do for a room! Nice change.
Definitely makes the room look fresh and bright! All of our walls are white, which is a hard color to select when there are so many whites!
Choosing paint color is so difficult. This sounds like a great system for helping with the process. Looks fantastic, my daughter would LOVE that pink room.
The room looks great! It is nice they have picked out timeless colors to guide you, as I often get overwhelmed at the paint store too (I always play it safe and just choose one of the PB colors from the catalog!)
I just painted my whole house…. wish i knew about devine color!! Love the soft pink… a little girl’s dream!!
Your daughter’s room looks fantastic! I need serious paint selection help, as well. My dining room and hallways are best walked through quickly and with your eyes half-closed – the paint is that bad.
Everything looks so beautiful! Trend proofing is a great idea. I see so much trendy painting / styling on the home networks that it makes me crazy. Some of them are going to look icky in a few years.
Your home is beautiful and I love the soft colors of the girls room – that pillow ties it in beautifully!
I love the colors of your home (pinned a picture of your living room), and I think the softly shaded Devine Water Lily is absolutely beautiful.
