Its almost time for the big game! What are your favorite recipes to feature?
Do you go fancy? Gourmet sandwiches, maybe? Or totally traditional with pizza and wings? I love to pick a make-your-own theme where guests can help themselves throughout the evening…
Gourmet Burger Bar: Perfect if you can brave the chill – who doesn’t love a good burger?

Chili Bar: Another great one! Keep your chili in the crockpot and have a bunch of toppings ready for everyone to customize their bowl to their own liking! Great toppings include bacon bits, chopped red onion, shredded cheese, sour cream, scallions, cilantro, avacado… whatever floats your boat!
Taco Bar: One of my other favorites – its easy and fun for everyone to customize to exactly what they want! Check out my very favorite guacamole recipe – you’ll be hooked!
Finger Foods: And don’t forget the snacks! I love this infographic from Red Envelope on pairing cheese with beer – perfect to keep in mind for Oktoberfest, no?

Don’t forget — Tailgating/Homegating parties often involve finger foods, people sharing dishes like salsa and dips and food sitting at room temperature for long period of time. FoodSafety.gov highlights four simple steps to food safety: Clean, Separate, Cook, Chill. These basic actions include cleaning the food well, keeping potential contaminates separated, cooking meats thoroughly and chilling uneaten portions. You don’t want your guests to miss the end of the game because they’re sick, right? Break out the crockpot or warming trays for foods that need to be kept hot and serve cold foods over ice.

I love the make-your-own bars! But I hadn’t thought about a taco bar, I think we’ll offer a chili bar, so thanks for the idea. Of course, most people in Colorado are going all out this year! #Broncos FTW!
