Pinsipration: Remove Burn Marks from Wood

Our 14-year-old wood table was just covered with burn marks! The table was in great shape, but these burn marks were just awful. I was browsing Pinterest trying to find out how hard it was to refinish a table and I ran across this pin:

Melissa Angert’s pin on Pinterest.

Now.. WAIT. You want me to remove burn marks with… heat. isn’t what what CAUSED the burn marks? I was so nervous.  But I found several other pins that recommended the same method. So I went to a little tiny burn spot, held my breath, said a little prayer and gave it a try.

IT WORKED.

Almost every single burn mark was GONE! I had a couple really bad ones that took two rounds, but eventually, I had a brand new table again!

How to Remove Burn Marks from Wood

Here’s what you do:

  • Clean the spot REALLY well with just water and let dry.
  • Heat up a DRY iron to high heat.
  • Place a clean t-shirt over the burn mark and iron slowly on top. Move the iron around gently, don’t just sit it on top and let it stay there.
  • Lift up shirt periodically and see how its fading.
  • Finish up with a nourishing furniture polish!

  1. SHUT UP Mel – that’s so easy, I can’t believe it!!!! I hope I remember this if I ever need it someday. I totally have marks from using nail polish remover on my table… it looks so bad. I’m going to go search and see if there’s a quick solution for that! (Prob not… )
