The more I am called into NYC for fashion related events, the more I have to watch the weather for sudden changes. I love going in and I want to make sure I can get out if nasty weather crops up. I mean, you plan what you wear, you plan your hair but come the day of the event, the weather does exactly what it wants.
This week starts hurricane season and there are several great resources offered by NYC.gov for people who both live and work in NYC to know their evacuation zone and get out easily.
KNOW YOUR ZONE
To begin with, it’s important to Know Your Zone and therefore, the evacuation plan for your area. Resources are available on www.nyc.gov/knowyourzone including the hashtag #knowyourzone so you can keep informed and join the conversations via Twitter. Also on the website is information about the six hurricane evacuation zones, the hazards you may face from a hurricane and what to do to prepare.
HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS
In prep for a real hurricane, here are several key steps to have your home and family ready:
- Use NYC’s Hurricane Evacuation Zone Finder or call 311 to find out whether your home or business is located in a hurricane evacuation zone.
- Understand hurricane hazards and the steps you can take to prepare.
- Sign up for Notify NYC (https://a858-nycnotify.nyc.gov/notifynyc/). Get the latest emergency information via text, phone, email, fax, Twitter (@NotifyNYC), BlackBerry Messenger, and instant messenger.
