Baby-wearing is taking the Pinterest world by storm, and as intrigued as I was with the concept before I got pregnant, it wasn’t until Day Four at home with my little when I realized how important this trend is. Now, I have an almost-three-week-old, and my husband is back at work. The throngs of visitors have trickled to an occasional hello from a neighbor and the freezer meals are dwindling. So, even though my tiny one still wants to be held endlessly between feedings, Mama’s got stuff to do! Enter the lifesaver of the Hip Baby Wrap.
Company founder Jeannie Levedahl is a mommy herself and she searched far and wide for a wrap that was not only sturdy and breathable, but pretty! Not finding what she sought, she began making her own and was delighted when other mamas started requesting orders. These beautiful wraps are easy to use (even from the early days!) — in my zombie-like state I was able to hook up Baby Willow by myself in five minutes flat the very first time we used the wrap. She fell asleep instantly and I proceeded to trim the Christmas tree and get some laundry done (Look, Ma! No hands).

…Steps one and two down. From here you just put baby between your tummy and the front of the wrap, and loop the excess through her legs, tying in back. This is how a new mom photographs herself assembling the wrap.
The lightweight, woven 100% cotton wrap is comfy and soft for both you and baby, and I love that there are various wearing options with this piece to keep us connected for the next few years. Do yourself or your favorite mom-to-be the favor of investing in a Hip Baby Wrap, which makes an excellent baby shower gift. I also recommend their nursing poncho; I haven’t fed Willow out of the house yet, but I tried this on at home with her the other night and loved that we still felt connected and I was secure she could breathe under there, but it offers total privacy. Bring on the holiday guests — Mama is ready to nurse and carry on an adult conversation at once.
Bond with your babe and look great doing it! Available in six color options — wraps, $120 each, nursing ponchos, $50 each; hipbabywrap.com.

Babies love to be tucked in but my Willow with her super-strong head likes to come out and look around; make sure when your very tiny babe is awake that you have a hand at the ready for neck support. Five minutes after this pic was taken she had passed out and was back in there freeing up both hands.
