My most recent beauty book report is Robert Jones' Looking Younger. You can see my full review at 5 Minutes for Books, complete with photos of me using some of the techniques I learned from reading this book. Like this one:
Along the top lash line, the definition should start at the inner
corner, and it should be thinnest there, becoming wider as you apply it
across to the outside corner of the eye. This is hard (for me, anyway)
to achieve. I tend to keep it the same thickness all the way across.
But I've been practicing and it really does make a big difference.
Likewise, on the bottom, you want to bring the color all the way across
to the inside corner, but the color should be most intense at the
outside corner. The same thickness all the way across can close in the
eyes and make them appear smaller.
And here on Chic Critique, I get to give away a copy for free! To enter the giveaway, just leave me a comment. Tell me about your Thanksgiving plans or your biggest beauty blunder or that my sweater's pretty. Anything except "great giveaway!" You get the picture.
I will select a winner at random on Friday. Good luck!

Getting ready to go teach this afternoon. I’ll use your mascara tips as I’m “putting my face on”, as my husband calls the makeup process! Thanks for the great tips! (and you look beautiful, with or without!!!)
Great review! My biggest beauty blunder involved an eye lash curler. The little plastic cushion (I’m not sure of the technical name for it) was missing…only I didn’t realize that it was missing until after I had curled my eyelashes on one of my eyes. When I looked into the mirror I noticed that half of my lashes on that eye had been snipped off. Needless to say I was horrified. Thankfully they grew back…but it took some time.
My husband and I are going to my son’s and daughter in laws house for Thanksgiving. You did a great job on your makeup application.
Once I took my kids to an out-of-town singing school. I was really tired, and totally messed up my mascara one morning. I was using the 2-step kind where you start with a white, lengthening coat and then add the dark coat over it. I didn’t add the second coat. I looked in the mirror later and realized my eyelashes were WHITE! I had to wait until later in the day when we were back at our host’s house to fix it!
I recently turned 31 and, though I know it sounds ridiculous, I am feeling old. I need some tips to improve my look. Now!
I’m getting a color consultant to help me with clothing & make-up colors for Christmas. This would be a great help after i leave her and have to do it myself!
You look lovely before & after but I like the softly, polished look in your after. You have a healthy glow. Thanks for the review!
You look lovely, as always. I will plan to try to mascara tips this week.
I am all about looking younger. I think your sweater is pretty. One time I got distracted and went around for far too long with mascara on one eye but not the other, and I’m blonde. My Thanksgiving plans are not finalized; I may invite an English family and a Korean family over, but I may chicken out (pun intended, although I will of course cook turkey)
I’m actually on my way to pick up some more of my fave lipgloss, Bare Escentuals Buxom! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
We are having my husband’s parents over for Thanksgiving dinner this year.
Love the look.
Yes, please enter me in the drawing.
It’s not a blunder, but one thing I CANNOT do? Make a smoky eye with dark shadow and liner. I had a pro do it for me with black and it looked amazing, but when I try it myself? Total fail!
Help…I so need this book. I went and had my makeup done at MAC and LOVED the results…bought all the stuff…and came to a screeching halt when I tried to duplicate it all at home. I think this step-by-step guide is exactly what I need.
You look great…I do see the difference in the after, and it looks lovely. Great tip about the mascara…I’ll have to try that.
Thanks so much!
Honestly If I looked any younger I be asked where my mother is. My question is how do I look older ๐ (I am 26, but I get mistaken for 18/19)
I need this book! As I was reading through the review at 5 Minutes For Books I was saying to myself, “I wish that this was a giveaway because I REALLY need the information in this book.” What a pleasant surprise to find that it is a giveaway!
My biggest beauthy blunder? Probably not wearing makeup for most of the past 15 years. I am usually too lazy, but I’m starting to care more now that I’m getting older.
I almost skipped reaing this review, because I’m 27, and don’t feel a particular desire to look younger, despite my “4-kids-in-4-years” body.
Then, as I scrolled down and saw the before and after pics, I was intrigued.
My routine usually consists of just mascara. I own other make-up. Nice make-up. I just don’t bother to use it, because I’m never really that happy with how it looks, and I’m not one to experiment with my face.
I think I could get a lot of use out of this book!
As for Thanksgiving plans, I have a crowd coming over. But, not one big enough to eat my turkey. Click on my url to see what I mean.

My makeup blunder happened in first grade. It was so humiliating that at 43 I still remember it ๐ My friend and I found pancake makeup, and blue eyeshadow, and I think it was a hot pink lipstick. We really must’ve went to town, because the teacher looked a tad surprised and suggested we go wash it off.
Happy Thanksgiving!

My Thanksgiving plans? Working. Have pity on me.

When my son was about 3 years old, I went and cut my hair off and it was as short as a mans. My husband hated it and I did too but 11 years later, I have never done it again. Happy Thanksgiving.
I came over from 5 minutes for books…your makeup looks wonderful!
Thanksgiving; all my kids will be home along with some other family members so 17 people for dinner at my house! Most of my cooking is done and in the freezer but still need to clean up some.
I totally need this book. With no sisters and a mom who hates makeup, I have never quite gotten the hang of the whole makeup thing….
and your sweater does look nice ๐
I’m spending Thanksgiving with my in-laws and they are wonderful! I wish I had known about this book a week ago so I could be using some new techniques to look younger. I’m now in my mid 30’s and loooooove to learn new ideas to look great. Thanks for the great info!

I am flying to a non-Thanksgiving country ๐ going to Ireland for a cousin’s wedding – it will be weird to arrive Thu and not have turkey!!
My husband and I are putting the turkey in TONIGHT around midnight. That way the turkey will cook all night, I’ll be up early anyway to baste it, and that’s one less thing to deal with in the morning. Can I say GREAT GIVEAWAY anyway!?
What’s that they say: You can never be too thin or have too many guides to looking beautiful? I’d love to have the opportunity to be guided by Robert Jones’ book.
We are going to my hubby’s grandparents for dinner. Thanks for the chance to win.
My biggest beauty blunder was when I tried to add color to my brows with and eyebrow pencil. It was the wrong color, and the lighting was bad in my bathroom. Never the less, I went to work feeling good, however I noticed people fellow employees looking at me strangly. Not in the eye, but above. I decided to look into my small compact mirror (in good lighting) and found myself horrified! I looked rediculouse.
We’re having DH’s parents over for the feast. OMG, I don’t know how long it’s going to take to get through all of the food!
This year my sister is having Thanksgiving dinner at her house. It’s exciting because we are having more people come this year, plus my hearing came back a little this year so I am happy…

I left a brand new tube of lipstick in the car during a warm summer day. Later that evening, I decided to use my new lipstick. I started to put it on when I realized it was almost completely melted. By this time, it was all over my lips and chin! I looked like a clown.
I have nothing really planned for the holidays other then going to moms house for dinner and i loved how u explaned how to choose the right mascara

We are a family of 8 and of course all our friends are of equal size families. But the year we invited 2 new friends, friends that are away from their family like we are. So for dinner plus 3 elderly couple are 32. We are 2 24 lb turkeys,15 lbs of mashed potatoes, 8 lb of sweet potatoes, 10 lbs of carrots, 5 cans of cranberry sauce, 5 lbs of turnips, 5 lbs of squash, of course stuffing 2 kinds, 8 pies we couldn’t agree on 4 kinds so we said what the heck. This will be an exciting day. We have good friends and healthy families to be thankful for.

I came across your site and I like it. I’m always interested in looking younger….ever since my 15 year younger boyfriend dropped me because “I wasn’t young enough for him…” How’s that for a hook.
With family far away, we will get together with our landlady and all the people who rent from her houses and her family – between 11-1 – they actually raised the turkeys – and will have a sweet thankfulness ceremony tonight for them and cook them in the ground. It will be nice because our toddler can play with other babies.
Then my husband and I will head on up to Thunder Ranch Casino near Santa Fe for a huge turkey dinner and maybe play five or ten dollars in the penny slots.

I’m preparing a Russian Thanksgiving meal for my husband (I’m of Russian origin); I hope he’ll appreciate! ๐
My husband is dieting (and doing great). My son is working on Thanksgiving. My daughter and I will probably go to a movie and maybe out for a turkey dinner. Cheaper than cooking for the two of us.
I teach English to high school students, and nothing – NOTHING, I tell you – was more humiliating than showing up one day with only one eye done.
I lied and said I did it to see if they could notice detail. I’m pretty sure they didn’t believe me.

We were going to have a ‘traditional’ Thanksgiving dinner like we do every year. However, we recently moved and have no stove in our new place – so, we are having a ham (cooked in the crock pot) and mixed veggies cooked in the microwave. 5 children, myself and hubby. This is my first Thanksgiving w/out a Turkey.
I turned 60 and I need all the help I cant get.
