Last week Moriah broached the subject of natural deodorant with a review of Arm & Hammer’s new Essentials line of natural deodorants.
I’m glad to know I’m not the only person wondering about the chemicals that are in most deodorants and all antiperspirants and a potential link to cancer and other diseases. When I really think about it there is no way that antiperspirants can come close to being natural. They stop your body from sweating. That’s how your internal thermostat works to keep things at the right temperature.
With a baby growing inside my body I have found the courage and desire to try products that are more green, more healthy, more natural.
Enter the natural deodorant I picked up recently: Crystal Body Deodorant Stick.
I first encountered this product about half a lifetime ago when my mom was recovering from breast cancer surgery. Sitting on my her bathroom counter was what looked like a deodorant stick. However upon removing the cap I didn’t find the usual white, cakey product. Instead I discovered a rock. This particular rock was, and still is, made up of natural mineral salts and alum. That’s it.
So when I saw it at my local drug store among the other deodorant products I knew exactly what it was. And I threw it in my shopping cart to see if it works.
The next day I moistened the top of the crystal with a little water and rubbed it on just as I would with any other stick deodorant. Sure enough the salts worked! No smell.
The only problem for me is that it really is just a deodorant. While using the Crystal Body Deodorant Stick I didn’t smell bad but about halfway through the afternoon I would start to develop those not-so-fashionable wet spots under my arms.
If your lucky enough to not sweat very much, simply don’t care or maybe want a healthier option for stay-at-home days or while working out at the gym the Crystal Body Deodorant Stick is a great option for controlling the stink. I think I’ll be sticking with my deodorant antiperspirant.
Oh, did you think this review was over there? Nope. Next I went on to notice that the directions on the product also mention using it on the soles of the feet. Being the curious woman I am I had to try it. Sure enough, it works great on preventing foot odor. I’m seriously considering making Honey use it before lacing up before all of his soccer games. Imagine the money I can save on Febreeze when I no longer have to detox his soccer cleats!
Crystal Body Deodorant Stick can be found in the deodorant/anti-perspirant aisle of most stores.

Interesting! I wish I’d know about this back when I was pregnant and my hands always smelled funny. (To me.) You always smell pretty to me.
Interesting – I would like to try it for the foot use. Still having wetness underarms would drive me nuts.
I used to use this all the time. I was slightly obsessed with using only natural products for awhile.
So, I tried all kind of natural anti-perspirants and this was the only thing that worked for me. It did work on my feet also. Although, it did take a couple weeks for my body to become accustomed to it.
However, after a couple of months, the stone started to carry a yucky smell. Basically, body odor. I had to throw it away and get a new one. This would happen about every 3-4 months.
I finally did get tired of the wetness and went back to regular anti-perspirant/deodorant, though. I did continue to use baking powder without aluminum and make sure all of my cookware is without aluminum. 2 out of 3’s not bad, I figure.
Great post!
