This contest is closed, and the winner is Jacqueline in Atlanta! Congratulations, Jacqueline!
I think the 30s and 40s is the hardest age to dress. We’re too old for the hip, trendy styles of the 20-somethings, but we’re too young for the classic, stodgy looks of the 50- and 60- somethings. I don’t want to look like my mother OR my teenage daughter (if I HAD a teenage daughter, which I don’t, but I COULD, and if I DID, I wouldn’t want to share her clothes. KWIM?)
SO. What’s a stylish 35+ mom to wear?

In Steal This Style by Sherrie Mathieson, “moms and daughters swap wardrobes secrets” to find inspiration for a “forward-looking, timeless, and youthful wardrobe.”
This is SUCH a cute book. I think it would make the perfect Mother’s Day Gift. Throughout the book, Sherrie Mathieson takes you through all sorts of different occasions, and with different mother and daughter pairs, she shows you how to take inspiration from the “younger set” while still maintaining a modern, age-appropriate style. It’s full of colorful pictures to showcase her ideas.
She shows what NOT to wear and how to do it better. There are TONS of practical nuggets of fashion and beauty advice throughout that are practical for women of any age. The book really is geared more for the older moms, taking inspiration from their younger grown daughters, but the book is fun for moms of any age.
WIN IT! One lucky reader will win a copy of Steal This Style!

Ummmm…It’s hard for me sometimes to find jeans that fit me. Do I go to teenager stores like American Eagle b/c they fit me?? Or do I buy ones at more appropriate stores like LOFT and always find them too loose on my thighs?? So…I would love to win this book!
I would love to win this.
My biggest challenge is wearing the same thing every day!!!!!! I get stuck in a rut.
my biggest fashion challenge is wearing Bermuda shorts when my legs are so short. I always wear them and I repeatedly comment on how ridiculous they look when I see myself in pictures. I need some help with my short legs and commentary styles to match them 🙂
My biggest fashion challenge is getting out of the rut of wearing capri’s and t-shirts everyday.
My biggest fashion challenge is disguising my pot belly!

I am kinda in the inbetween stage. I am 41 and want to be in style but I don’t want to look like I am trying to be 20 again. It’s hard to shop because you are either in the teen section or the old lady section. That’s my biggest problem. Oh, that and my tummy:)
I already subscribe:)
My biggest challenge is that I’m barely 5 feet tall, but not a tiny petite person – not too large, but not small enough for 5 feet!
I love my lounge sweats and wear them always, shopping, errands, out to dinner, etc. That is my biggest style challenge.

I blogged about the contest.
Very fun. I need some new ideas.
I feel like I”m in stuck in solid prints and don’t know what to do.
WOW what a fun book! and you are SO right, it gets worse in your 40’s especially when you have teenage dd’s around telling you how to dress – it worked for a few years, but at 44 I just can’t pull it off any more! LOL
My biggest challenge lately has been since I’ve become a SAHM I wear the same thing almost every day, a solid t-shirt (long or short sleeved) with sweatpants or jeans. ugh, I’m tired of it.

Finding jeans that are cute, but fit right.
I am my own worst challenge. I had no sisters growing up and my mom was a fashion disaster. I long for fashion knowledge. Sigh.
My fashion challenge is finding clothes that fit my really broad shoulders. Not all women are pear shaped, oh clothes designer people, some are football player shaped!
haha – I just the other day had a discussion with my co-workers on this very topic. I am turning 30 and feel like I am entering an awkward clothes age – I don’t want to look like a college kid anymore or dress like an old lady. This book sounds like a lot of fun!
I would love to win this. My biggest challenge is I’m short and curvy. Its hard to find clothes that fits.
Just a thought here from a first time visitor, someone over 50 and presumably in the “classic, stodgy 50- and 60- somethings” age group…
You’ve got a cute website with some possibly helpful information, however did you really mean to imply that everyone over 50 has a “classic, stodgy” look or wants to?
Many of us who are over 50, detest both the frumpy old lady look and label and prefer to dress in more current modern styles without looking like we’re trying to emulate a 20-something. We’re right there with you in the women’s clothing section also looking for something with a forward looking, timeless and youthful look.
I am short and I have recently lost weight and now everything I did wear before is now hanging off me making me look like I’m wearing a bag. What are supposed to be capris, look like long pants!

My biggest problem is looking put together and still beinging Mommy-friendly!
Sue, I certainly didn’t mean to imply that everyone over 50 has a “classic, stodgy” look or wants to — not at all. I apologize that it sounded that way. My mom is in her early 60s and very stylish and fashion-forward, and I know she detests both the frumpy old lady look and label as well.
The book is actually geared towards women in their 50s and 60s who are looking to dress in current styles without looking like a 20-something. (And the daughters in the book were mostly in my age bracket.) So my lead-in really was more confusing than helpful, I fear. (I was in a rush. It’s never a good idea to throw up a post in a rush.)
I hope you visit us again! 🙂
I have tiny shoulders and small bust, a tiny waist, but tend to get a belly and I have a behind like an elephant. If I gain two pounds it goes down. I have considered sleeping standing on my head and see if it won’t migrate.
I kind of miss the shoulder pads of the 80s. They helped my shape! ha
Thanks for having the giveaway!
I’m nearly 6ft tall and a size 16. I love skirts but feel like i look like a sack of potatoes wearing them. I need to learn how to accessorize to add flair to my style
Right now it’s finding clothes that hide the post-baby chub that hangs around for a few month (or more) after the lovely little bundle arrives.
Finding a look that complements my height 6’2″ and yet doesn’t make me look like a scare crow. Also just lost alot of weight so adjusting to a slimer 6’2″ frame.

I need all the help I can get.
Trying to dress business casual – I either tip too far one way or the other!
My biggest challenge is changing my look. I tend to stick to one style ( :
My biggest challenge is that I just don’t know what looks good on my body since gaining weight (or rather, not losing the “baby fat”).
I have an awful time finding jeans that fit me. I am short and a little on the chubby side, so my jeans are always way too long for me.
