With the arrival of sunshine and warm weather, I bid my jeans goodbye. I know there are some who wear jeans year around and to you all I say, rock on. I am a total jeans girl in the cool weather, but I cannot stand even the thought of wearing them on a hot, summer day. During the summer I prefer being barelegged as well as barefoot.
Which brings me to my topic for today. What to wear this summer??
This year I’ve decided to girlie it up a bit, trading in my jean shorts, bermuda shorts, and capris for some SUNDRESSES. Last year I actually bought three casual cotton dresses and as I was unpacking my summer clothes (yes, one day my dream house will come with two closets, one for winter and another for summer so I don’t have to change my closet with the seasons, but I digress) I found myself looking forward the most to wearing them. While at first I thought they were impractical to wear around the house chasing the kids, I found myself wearing them more and more. They were just so comfortable.
This year I have decided to add some more dresses to my summer wardrobe. I did create a few rules for my dresses though:
- Must be cotton or another easy care material
- Flowing design to allow for easy movement
- Knee length to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions when chasing kids or bending over
- Allow for support of the girls cause they just don’t stay where they belong without it
Here are some dresses that are on my wishlist.

Old Navy Jersey Dress $24.50
Merona U Neck Drawstring Dress $24.99
Gap Pintuck Shirtdress $49.99
JCrew Jersey Twist Strap $78.00
I have that last one and it is oh so comfortable. You seriously could wear it as pj’s that’s how comfortable it is. The great thing about this dress is you can dress it up with some big, funky jewelry or put a little cami underneath while you run some errands or go to the park.
I could fill this space up with all the dresses I want for my summer wardrobe, but hopefully I’ve provided you with just a few options. Now go forth and shop, just don’t tell your husband I told you too.
So tell me, do you wear dresses in the summer? Any rules you follow when buying a new one?
If you don’t usually wear dresses, why not?

I LOVE summer cotton dresses. I have at least 10 dresses from all kinds of places: TJ Maxx, Gap, Marshalls, Forever 21… I wear these dresses from April to September almost exclusively if the occasion permits….
Oh, long live the summer dress! I just got a new one from Banana Republic. They are so comfortable for summer and, now that I’m getting older (ahem), I think they look nicer than shorts. For some reason I used to think wearing dresses would be more work — but honestly, it’s easier than putting on a pair of shorts and a tee. 🙂
I haven’t worn a dress in a LONG time…for a number of reasons.
A. I’ve been either pregnant or nursing for the past 4 years. I feel more comfortable in pants/jeans than dresses when I have a little one and need to be bending over and/or sitting on the floor throughout the day. I also think it’s hard to find attractive dresses that provide easy nursing access.
B. I have a hard time finding dresses that fit my figure because I’m rather “well-endowed” on the top, but smaller on the bottom…so it rarely works for me to just get a size “6” or “8” or “10” because my top and bottom sizes are so different.
I’d love to see an American company come out with dresses designed with more buxom women in mind…perhaps similar to the ones offered by Bravissimo: http://www.bravissimo.com/products/clothing/dresses-and-skirts.
