A Scent As Unique As You Are

I am a recovering perfumeaholic. Yes, I admit it to the Chic Critique community because I know that you will understand.

As soon as my mom would let me, I started wearing fragrance. I am guessing in my early teens. Love’s Baby Soft. Need I say more to those from my generation? By the way, you can pick that up at your local drugstore. I recently did for my niece and it is her favorite perfume now.

In my 20’s, the working years, I relished in spending my hard earned money on a new bottle of perfume. And not just any perfume. I loved having scents that nobody else was wearing. A new signature scent all my own. Often they were ridiculously priced but when you are single and making good money, you can spend it on things like this. Atleast, that is what I told myself.

It was during this time that I discovered Nordstrom and their perfume department. It was love at first snif. I love they way they have the scents separated – florals, spice, multi-note, single-note, etc. I enjoy speaking with the salesperson who is truly educated with the knowledge of fragrance. On my first visit, I told her my favorite and she was able to pick out at least 3 other scents that were similar but different all at the same time. I was in heaven for sure.

Here is a great listing of the classifications of perfumes. I like most scents but have a bit of an aversion to anything too spicy. While some women wear spicy like a rockstar, I am more of a floral type.

When I had babies, my perfume buying days dwindled to a mild body spray or nothing in some cases. Nursing a baby and wearing fragrance really don’t mix. My favorite bottles ran dry and I depended on my hubby to buy me a new bottle on special occasions. It was last summer right before heading to my 20th high school reunion that I decided to purchase a new scent. I was so excited to wear it out on date nights, too! Imagine my disappointment when the atomizer (spray thingy) stopped working only a year later. I had half a bottle left and could not use it.

So, I called Nordstrom and guess what? They said to bring it in and they would give me a whole new bottle! Except they didn’t carry that particular fragrance anymore so I could have a credit toward something else. I felt sadness first but then a whole unexpected excitement in the fact that I could get something new and fresh! This department store truly knows how to do customer service.

Enter Dolce & Gabbana and their newest line of fragrances. Five new scents that are light enough to wear to your child’s PTA meeting but interesting enough to wear out to dinner with your sweetie. I almost could not decide.

I finally decided on 18 La Lune and could not be happier with my purchase. It’s full of floral notes of lily, tuberose and surprisingly for me, sandalwood. It has a base of the softest smell of leather. Can you smell it now? ummm.

I also loved 3 L’ Imperatrice. The florals topped with some yummy fruit notes make this one very fun. The saleswoman actually gave me a sample of this one to play around with.

I love that each scent is as unique as each of us are. I highly recommend them and the best part is that for a designer fragrance, it is reasonable at $65 for a 3.3 FL. OZ. bottle of eau de toilette. It actually is the only way you can buy it.

If you don’t happen to have a Nordstrom near by, you can also purchase these Dolce & Gabbana fragrances at Sephora.com . You will love at least one of them! They are a long way from Love’s Baby Soft, I can promise you that.

So, what is your favorite fragrance right now?

  1. You may just inspire me to try something new! I have no idea what classification my favorites fall into – I’ll have to check it out. But my favorite is Kenneth Cole reaction, and I’ve been wearing it for a few years. I might be making an appearance at Nordstrom soon! Or at least to figure out what to add to my Christmas wish list!

  2. What great customer service they provided to you at Nordstrom’s! I’m impressed!

I’m also a perfumaholic, but I’m currently nursing, so I have to be careful with what and how much I spray on myself!

  3. I used to love, love, love Love’s Baby Soft! It is the perfect starter scent.

I am unfortunately the kind of person who is completely overwhelmed with too many choices, so I rely on my hubby to find me a great scent. He is SO good at finding a good one! He bought me a bottle of Ralph Lauren perfume last year that I absolutely love! I’ll have to send him to Nordstrom’s next time!

  4. Omigosh, that is more about perfume than I’ve ever heard in my life. How interesting! I don’t wear perfume, but my husband loves scents. I really should try to find something that we both enjoy.

  5. For the past few years, I’ve been wearing DKNY Be Delicious and Red Delicious. Before that it was Hugo Boss Deep Red. Now I’m starting to get into wearing different things during different seasons. This summer it was D&G Light Blue. They really know how to do fragrance! I’ll have to check out these recommendations. Unfortunately, I can’t wear it to work because some of our patients suffer from migraines triggered by scents.
