Spring Trend: Flatforms

There are a lot of fun, trendy styles to incorporate into our wardrobes this Spring. High-waisted flare jeans, cropped jackets, full skirts, nude pumps, 70s dresses.

But please, pretty please, stay away from the flatforms. I don’t care who’s rocking them on the runways, they remind me way too much of the Baby Spice and Scary Spice’s platform-esque shoes in the 90s.

Unless Victoria Beckham wore it, it's safe to assume you should not wear today what the Spice Girls wore a decade ago. Even then, tread carefully.

Much like gladiator shoes, I doubt these flatforms are podiatrist recommended. Yes, they add a few inches of height. But since flatforms don’t have the arch needed to elongate your legs the way heels do, in my mind the potential style factor doesn’t exactly make the foot pain worth it.

I’m sticking with flats or heels this summer – none of this in-between flatform nonsense.

But what about you? Are any of you going to splurge on this year’s footwear craze? If so, please send me pictures and prove me wrong 🙂

  1. “Flatforms” as they are now called were ugly in the 70’s when I wore them, 90’s when the Spice Girls wore them…and they are still ugly. UG!

  2. Oh my goodness….. hahaa

  3. Darn, I actually have a pair of huge platforms that are blue. They’re almost identical to Baby Spice’s shoes. I bought them in Vienna in 1998. I was hoping to resurrect them this season. But maybe I ought to just leave them in my closet and only pull them out for the occasional Lady Gaga concert.
