Tall Girl Style: Favorite Places To Find Pants, Jeans & Slacks

Many women dream of having longer legs.  They wear high heels, pants and skirts all designed to elongate the legs.  Meanwhile, little do they know, those of us with long legs have a little secret — we are always trying to find clothes that will properly cover them.  Well, maybe not always cover them.  However, since most of us don’t live in California or Miami, we can’t always wear skirts.  Trust me, long legs get cold too!

TALL GIRLS GUIDE Best Places to Shop

Tall girls are always on the lookout for pants that fit properly.  Fortunately, clothiers and fashion designers have come such a long way with their offerings for the tall woman.  It used to be, you had to shop at the one tall girl’s store that sold poorly made clothes for exorbitant prices.  However, that has all changed.  Now you can find pants and all articles of clothing inspired by the looks on the runway and the latest fashion trends; you just have to know where to look.

I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite places to find pants, jeans and slacks for the longer legged woman.

Ann Taylor Online: Now, they don’t sell the long lengths in the store.  However, their online site has a wonderful selection of pants with inseams of 34 and 36 inches.  Their prices run from $50-$150 per pair, however, Ann Taylor always has a sale so you rarely have to pay full price. They usually offer free shipping if you spend a certain amount, and returns are accepted at your local Ann Taylor store.  They also have a wide variety of sizes from 0 to 18.

Express, The Limited and New York & Company: These are all brick and mortar stores that offer longer lengths.  Now, I must admit that since I wear a 36-inch inseam, I usually have to have the hem let out when I buy from these stores.  However, the pants they carry almost always either have cuffs or a large hem allowance, which makes it easy to make the pants longer.  They have sizes from 2-18, and their longer lengths are usually 34 inches.  The prices are usually pretty modest because once you get on their mailing list, they will routinely send you coupons.  I have bought pants from these stores for prices ranging from $20 to $60.  These stores also have websites at Express.com, The Limited.com and NYandCompany.com.

Long Elegant Legs aka Tall Women’s Clothes: I don’t know if they officially changed their name to Tall Women’s Clothes.  However, if you type either name (Long Elegant Legs or Tall Women’s Clothes) you get the same website – TallWomensClothes.com.  This is a great website for comfortable professional and casual tall women’s clothes.  They also have a great selection of pants, slacks and jeans for the long legged gal.  They have an extensive selection of sizes from 4 all the way to 24 on some items.  Their items run true to size and are usually made with fabrics that provide a forgiving fit.  Their prices run from $50 to about $80 for pants, leggings and jeans.

Long Tall Sally: I have never ordered from this site, but it appears to have a great selection.  I am including this site on the list because I have heard great things about their selection and service. Their site LongTallSally.com offers jeans and pants in sizes 6 to 20, with inseams of 34 – 37 inches, for prices ranging from $30 to $100.  This site appears to have something for everyone.

Tall Couture: I love this site. I love that this company was started by two six-foot tall sisters.  I also love that they keep it in the family.  There have been many times that I have called them and spoken to the sisters or their cousin who takes orders for them.  I also love, really love, the fashions.  Now, the clothes for sale here are not cheap.  You can easily spend $170 on a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans, $200 on a pair of Hudson jeans, or even $340 for a pair of Altitude Fasique trousers.  Although they also have leggings for about $60, and they have terrific sales which usually includes free shipping.  Like most purveyors of tall women’s clothes, if you want items from Tall Couture you have to order them online. Actually, I have spoken to the owners before, and I do believe if you contact them, they will let you come up to their studio in NYC. As for sizes, they have inseams of 34 and 36 and even some unfinished hems, and their size guide list sizes from 0-18.  However, from my personal experience, I can tell you most of their pants and especially their jeans run small.  Furthermore, good luck trying to find any of their designer jeans in a size above 10 or 12.

This is just a list of some of my favorites.  I do believe that most stores now carry extended sizes, but you may just need to ask.

Do you have a favorite place to find tall women’s clothes? Let me know. I’m always looking to add to my list.

  1. Wonderful post…there are a lot of us out here! I’ll just add that I just discovered lucy.com for athletic wear. The ‘tall’ pants have a 36 inch inseam…now I’m off to check out AnnTaylor.com!

    • Yes, there are a lot us out there. I’m so glad that stores are finally carrying items in longer lengths. Thanks for the tip about Lucy.com. I had never heard of it and I am always looking for active wear.

  2. Old Navy, Gap & Banana Republic have lots of tall offerings online, both in pants and tops (for those of us tall girls with longer torsos and arms). I’ve ordered from ON in the past – they have free shipping over $50, and great sales.

    • Ooh I forgot about Gap. I have never ordered from them but I have heard that they have longer jeans. I will have to look into Old Navy & Banana Republic. I had no idea that they had longer lengths.

  3. American Eagle Outfitters. All. The. Way.
Every style, length and shape you could ever want. They last forever and are so inexpensive it’s almost unfair.

  4. I forgot to add that this past winter Target had Tall length tights instore.

  5. My go to is Vctoria’s Secret. Their pants have 34 and 36 inseam lengths. I especially love their Yoga pants! I am a dance teacher so I live in these. Great fit, true to size. Love that their jeans come in lengths also. Never have purchased their dress pants before though.

    • Cathy, thanks for reminding me about Victoria’s Secret. I have bought from them several times and I do love their clothes. I have a pair of workout pants from them that I wore during both pregnancies and I still wear them now. Wait, that’s probably not a good thing (hangs head in shame, lol).

I think I with all of these suggestions, I may have to do an updated version of this post in the future. However, next time I will also have to discuss places to find other items (like the very hard to find tall long sleeve shirt) and aybe even shoes.

  6. Hi Penny! Thanks for the great article! Just wanted to give you an update on sizing at TallCouture.com. Most premium designers offer denim sizes 24-32 (0-12), but there are a couple of exceptions. Fidelity Denim is available up to size 34, approximately a 14, and Silver Jeans up to 36, approximately a 16. I hope that is helpful to your readers. Always a pleasure to speak/email/tweet with you! Love the blog!

  7. Thanks for all the information. Have always bought dress pants from JCP. They took ultra tall away last year for some odd reason. You can bet I’ve sent my opinion in. You might want to do the same. Maybe they will offer again if enough complain. Very reasonably priced through the years. I’ve recently bought jeans at Alloy.com. The problem is you have to order them, try them on, find out what fits and then do a return. Once you know the brands and sizes, you shouldn’t have to do that anymore.

  8. I wear a 36″ – 38″ pant. I’m 6′ tall but it’s all leg. I have a hard time finding dress pants anywhere. My jeans I actually buy from Vanity. I don’t like to spend more than $50 on pants so they are a good place to shop.
