All eyes were on Kate Middleton early this morning as she arrived at Westminster Abbey to wed Prince William to get a peek at the super secret royal wedding gown.
The designer of the gown was kept under wraps but we found out at the very last minute Kate’s dress was designed by young British designer Sarah Burton for the fashion house of Alexander McQueen. Sarah took over as creative director of the McQueen label last year after the tragic suicide of Alexander. The 36 year old designer was apparently chosen for her low profile and discretion. I loved McQueen’s bold and daring style and I think choosing an Alexander McQueen wedding gown is a fantastic tribute to him and British designers in general.
Kate Middleton undoubtedly was influenced when Camilla Parker Bowles’s son Tom married Sara Buys in the Sarah Burton designed McQueen dress shown below.
Getting married and want to feel like a princess in a Sarah Burton original wedding gown? Check out these other wedding dresses by the soon-to-be world famous designer.
This dress was designed by Sarah Burton for fashion writer Plum Skyes, who looks a whole lot like Kate Middleton in this photo, doesn’t she?
Shortly after Kate and William announced their engagement, the Alexander McQueen label held a fashion show of a whole line of wedding dresses that were far more reminiscent of McQueen’s bold style. None of them are what you would have expected Kate to wear today, but of the outrageous haute couture styles, my favorite is this gold tinged one.
So it’s your turn to weigh in! Did you get up super early to watch the royal wedding live? What did you think of Kate’s dress?
I loved the dress too!
I did get up at 4am. 3:45 to be exact. I blogged about it live. A sort of play by play. She looked like SUCH A PRINCESS! Good thing.
It was lovely! Nice pick Kate!
I dvr’d it and watched it later. I thought she looked BEAUTIFUL. I hate the reviews I’ve heard/read that say she looked too plain, not modern enough, etc. She has a classic, timeless beauty about her that cannot be touched!
This is a very good tip especially to those fresh
to the blogosphere. Short but very accurate info… Thanks for sharing this one.
