I am a flip flop junkie. I have an entire wardrobe of Havaianas that I used to slip into as soon as the temps passed 50.
Last summer I had the misfortune of getting Plantar Fasciitis. In short, it’s horrific pain in your heel that requires sensible shoes to combat. I hate sensible shoes. (Hence the reason I get things like P.F.)
I fought them for a while, limping through town in my flip flops, until I discovered Sketchers Tone Ups. These are the summer version of the sneakers that are supposed to tone your rear just through their fit alone. I have no idea if these shoes actually tone my derriere, but they do have an arch, ample heel support, and still somewhat resemble a flip flop.
Last year I endured their somewhat clunky nature for the sake of my heels. There weren’t many to choose from and all of them were bordering on ugly. But my feet felt so good in them that I endured-choosing function over fashion for once in my life.
I must not have been the only one because the makers of these shoe miracles have gotten wise and created much more stylish versions this year. Between the Sketchers and Fit Flop brands, there are all new cuties to choose from. They can be pricey for summer sandals, but as someone who walks a ton and wears them every day, they are worth every single cent. I may just have to start a new shoe wardrobe this summer.
Take a peak at just a few. There are tons more at each website below!

I love my Fit-Flops. I’ve worn them every day for 2 whole summers, and they’re still going strong. I like the idea of the fancy ones.. might have to go & look.
Nike has some that are made out of the same material that mattresses & pillows come in. The foam that curves to your body.
Thanks for this – perfect for me, as I just picked up my first pair of custom orthotics today (flat feet plus a neuroma plus a developing heel spur means I will never touch a pair of Havaianas again, ever). I love my Fit Flops and also a brand called Olukai. They aren’t cheap but great for my feet.
I have some Yellow Box flip flops and I find them to be extremely comfortable!!!
love the flip flops but the stores who are authorized dealers have very poor selection of them and style, colors are really sad. did find 2 that I have never seen before at kohl’s, but would like the red ones “walkstar”. of course it will be cool sometime soon and I will not be able to find any flipflip
I will have to wait til spring I guess
