Everyday Mom Style :: Chic Blog of the Week

This week, we want to share one of ATC’s new favorite  blogs, Everyday Mom Style! I was immedaitedly drawn to Megan, she had great style!! And I just fell in love with ehr site when I read her about page: “I have spent a lot of time looking at other fashion blogs, and while I love lots of them, (especially What I Wore and La Vie Petit), many of them were too outrageous, to fashionable (is this possible?) and expensive for my style.  My wardrobe must reasonably priced, be comfortable and age appropriate. I’m not trendy. I’m not a risk taker. I have no fashion training or background and I’m not willing to spend a fortune on each outfit.  I’m just a 40 year old mother of two kids who wants to look and feel great.”

She does a great job of showing an outfit and really chic-ing it up and saying, “Hum, This looked frumpy. So I added this and changed the skirt and voila!” So if you’re looking for tips for making what you have look better, she’s your girl.

We asked Megan a few questions about her personal style this week:

1.      How do you describe your style?
My style is very simple and easy. I like classic looks- blazers, turtlenecks, ballet flats, jeans, not a lot of color or patterns, just simple and comfy pieces with a slight edge to reflect my personality a bit.

2.      What’s your favorite thing in your closet?
Probably my black blazer. I resisted buying it (worried it was too formal for a stay at home mom), but it has been the most versatile piece. I throw it on with jeans, dresses, skirts… it’s like a fancy cardigan- but more stylish! I also love my striped shirt. It goes with anything!

3.      What was your ‘best buy’ story?
Maybe I’m saying this because I’m wearing it today- but my faux fur. I bought it at Marshalls for around $30- at the exact same time my husband bought me a faux fur from Nordstroms that was over $150- I returned it and kept the cheap one. I’m sure the Nordstrom one was much better quality, but for a fun trendy piece- I am perfectly happy with my bargain find.
Another great piece that I’m excited about is my Madewell skinny jeans- I hesitated buying them- they were expensive and I worried that I’m not thin enough for a skinny jean. Luckily, I got over that (I’ll never be thin enough, but WHO CARES?!) I love the way they fit- and I think they look great with almost any outfit.

4.    What are your favorite stores to shop?
I love J Crew (don’t we all?), Nordstrom, Anthropologie- but I’ll admit, Anthro’s a hard one. Sometimes I go in and everything seems so quirky and offbeat. I’ll dig a bit and find some of their plainer pieces- and I always love them (and get compliments on them). I also love H&M and Target for cheap, trendy pieces. Forever 21 for jewelry. And, of course Marshalls and TJ Max! I’m definitely a Maxinista.

5.       Name the most valuable tool in your makeup/skincare bag:
My Proactive. I have hormonal skin, and I swear by this stuff! I also love my Bare Essentials face powders.

Hi Melissa – So glad you highlighted EverydayMomStyle. I shared a link to it on Facebook and I now have people in my town coming up to me (unsolicited) to tell me how much they love the blog!

This is especially great because Megan is not only stylish, she’s also one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet! And a whole lotta fun, too.
