This one is for all the mamas out there.
No really, it is.
What do you get when you combine gelato and Miranda Kerr? One of the best challenges ever. Not only did this episode involve a delectable dessert, but this famous supermodel-slash-mom joined the judges panel for one tasty runway. And a sweeter surprise? Diane von Furstenberg pulled up a stool to offer her opinion as well.
The challenge: Each designer was tasked to come up with a ‘look you could lick’ inspired by the flavor and color of gelato. Something that Miranda could wear to an industry event AND be able to breastfeed in.
The twist? There’s always a twist. They only had SIX hours to shop, design, create and fit the look for the runway. I know these crazy time constraints are to challenge the designers to be quick on their feet, but really. A six hour time limit is pretty limiting, even for a professional.
Regardless, the workroom was tense and a bit hectic as the designers each held their own internal debate of execution vs. design in an effort to get something on the model and out onto the runway.
Speaking of, let’s take a look!
[spoiler alert]
CHALLENGE WINNER: Michael is two-for-two with another win. His grapefruit-inspired kimono dress flowed beautifully. I thought it was quite simple and couldn’t really see it at a high-end industry event. But perhaps Miranda could rock it to a luncheon instead.
PERSONAL FAVORITE: Everyone ragged on Anthony’s Green Tea inspired dress calling the paneling tortured, but I loved that he mixed flowing fabrics with structured panels. Maybe if he had more than six hours to execute his design it would’ve been ranked a bit higher.
SENT PACKING: April. Her blueberry inspired dress was simple with two-toned fabrics, but the hem looked ‘as though a dog had caught a hold of it.’ It was one of her best designs so far in the competition, but not stunning enough to win over the judges.
PERSONAL WORST: Kara’s chocolate with cayenne pepper inspired dress was reminiscent of a cupcake more so than a dress that could steal the show at an industry event. Her model looked pregnant and uncomfortable in this confection.

i loved anthony’s too!!!!! i was so bummed that he didn’t at least come out close to the top! i agree with your personal worst too…when you make a waifer-thin model look pregnant, you need the boot!
I would have sent Kara packing, too. Painfully unflattering.
I was sad to see April go just because I think she is interesting. I didn’t love Michael’s look. I would have rather seen Kara go than April for sure. And I didn’t care for Jerell’s look either.
