Change is in the air! Leaves are turning colors, I’m changing my flip flops for boots and even my beauty routine is getting a face lift. I LOVE fall. I love changing over my closet from summer dresses and sandals to comfy, cozy sweaters! I unpack my boots and just look forward to a whole new season of style. Its one of my favorite things about living in Philadelphia – the whole northeast is just breathtaking this time of year! As the leaves change, I’m ready for changes everywhere!
My bathroom drawer gets a change, too! My lipsticks get a little darker. My foundation starts getting lighter as my summer tan fades. I pump up the eyes with eyeliner and mascara. And I switch out my light, summer moisturizer for something a little thicker to help combat dryness. I love Olay for fall! The Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Face Cream is amazing – thick enough that my skin doesn’t get dry even when the weather gets harsh, but not so thick that my skin can’t breathe.
And of course, fall also means a change for me! This fall I decided it was time to change my hair! I know I’m not the only one, right? I love a big change! Especially when it comes to color. I decided it was time to kiss the blonde goodbye and go darker for fall. What do you think?
Choosing a hair color can be overwhelming, but we have some easy tips to help you choose the right one for you!
TIPS FOR CHOOSING AT-HOME HAIR COLOR
- Choose according to your skin tone. Once you know if your skin tone is warm or cold, you will be ahead of the game. If you have warm skintone, go with warm, yellowish-brownish-goldenish undertones, you’ll want to keep your color warm as well to avoid looking tired. If you have a cool or olive complexion, accent it by opting for colors that are shiny, ashy and free of all red or gold undertones. (I typically go for a ash brown, with my cool skin.)
- Choose healthy. Natural hair is never completely one color – your kids’ hair probably has lots of natural highlights, lowlights and undertones. If you want a natural look, make sure your color comes isn’t flat! Try a brand like Natural Instincts – it gives hair great depth and shine, so hair looks healthy instead of flat. I’ve used Natural Instincts since high school and its my absolute favorite!
- Choose to follow instructions. It’s easy to leave dye on your hair for longer than the recommended time, especially when highlighting or going lighter. Follow the directions carefully – its easier to dye again then undo overprocessing.
- Choose closely. If you’re looking for a BIG change – as in several shades darker or lighter – baby steps is key. Trying to go from black to blonde can really damage your hair if you try to do it in one shot. And don’t forget – the farther you stray from your natural shade, the more often you will have to do touchups.
- Choose more than just hair color. Don’t forget to adjust your makeup when you make a change to your hair color!
- Choose the right shampoo and conditioner. Once you have your awesome new look, take care of it! Look for labels that indicate a shampoo or conditioner is designed for “colored” or “chemically treated” hair, like Herbal Essences Color Me Happy. Color-treated hair needs a little extra love, to make sure it doesn’t get dry or dull.
