Plus Shopping in Canada

I have touched on some of the best shops in the United States and in the U.K. and now it is time to talk about online shopping from Canada. Whether you live in Canada or the United States, the following shops will ship to both countries.

Addition-Elle will always have a soft spot in my heart because it was the first store that made me fall in love with plus size fashion. They have over 100 stores across Canada but it really did not become accessible to everyone until they opened their online shop which delivers throughout Canada and the United States at very reasonable rates. Back in the old days most of their selection was career wear oriented but today they more than dabble in every day wear and plus size bras. And shopping online also allows you to shop at their more casual sister store, Penningtons. Addition-Elle dresses sizes up to 24 while Penningtons goes up to 5x.

Lola & Gigi is the brain child of curvy entrepreneur Laura Caravaggio who opened her walk-in boutique in Etobicoke, ON. Her weboutique ships worldwide and has been open for a few years. She features such coveted designers as Anna Scholz, Melissa Masse, Rachel Pally, David Kahn, and Svoboda in plus sizes up to 24. Whether you are a Lola or a Gigi or something in between Laura strives to make your shopping experience enjoyable.

Go Figure has been making plus size athletic wear for women up to size 24 since Kim Ellis-Durity first opened shop over ten years. Whether you are doing yoga or running a marathon you will find your active wear here. They carry many tops and bottoms to make your chosen activity more comfortable. They offer online and phone shopping as well as linking to other shops that carry some of their products.

Reitmans is one of the longest running clothing stores in Canada. Each of their stores carries a plus size line that goes up to 3x. You can now shop their fun every day fashions online.

Cherry Velvet Plus is a new online shop featuring one of my favorite lines of retro dresses up to 3x. They are also a certified distributor of Canadian designer Diane Kennedy’s eco-friendly fashions — made in Canada. They offer reasonable shipping to the United States and Canada.

Toni Plus is celebrating twenty years and they have recently ventured into the world of online shopping although not completely. While their entire product line is not available online it does give access to phenomenal designers that were previously only available if you could find a store. Their website is not what I would call “online shopping friendly” as potential shoppers have to make more than a few clicks before they can get down to some serious designer shopping in sizes up to 22.

Nygard has always resided at the mature end of the clothing offerings spectrum but it has loosened up over the years. They offer plus size fashions up to size 24 (although I would not classify the models in their plus section as being even on the low end of full-figure) with shipping at in the United States and Canada at reasonable rates.

Three Things to Keep in Mind

• If you live in the states and order from Canada there may still be the possibility of taxes and duties depending on what you order and how much.
• Depending on where you are, shipping can take anywhere from one to three weeks.
